It's starting to grow on me, if it's a write off I'm definitely going to take one for a test drive

Is it a good car? I like the 2nd Gen way better than the 3rd Gen (current). The back on the current Mazda 5 is really ugly IMO

On a side note, my Stepdad got a job at Honda, I'll probably be driving new Hondas alot.

I feel like these and Odysseys are the only Minivans with street cred. And even then, these are cooler than Odysseys.

Same. It comes with a stick shift. Name one other minivan that does that these days.

Just had one as a rental. Mine was a Sport model, sounds system was good, seating was nice and comfortable on the 1 1/2 hour drive each way. Gas mileage was subpar in my opinion, but I wasn't watching it very closely. It just seemed like I was filling up too often for how much I was driving.

My parents had one for a rental in 08. I liked it. Small, but not tiny, just enough room for activities, found that out.

Sounds like most Mazdas

Pretty meh Gas Mileage but otherwise good. Sound System is amazing in high-end Mazda models, because BOSE.

My Grandma's 2012 Mazda 3 is a gas guzzler for it's size. And my Grandma drives like a Grandma.

We shopped these in 2007 so they may be different now but here is my opinion:

It's available with a manual but only if you get a stripped down model. If you want any decent features you are stuck with a slushbox.

The front passenger legroom is ridiculously bad due to the way the dashboard is designed.

You know, I'm in the market for a minivan and was heavily leaning toward a T&C, but Mazda 5 is a damn good idea. Can you fit a sheet of plywood inside?

A friend of mine had one and loved it. You can get them with a manual transmission, and a lot of the parts from the Mazda 3 will bolt on. My friend put on some sort of sport suspension from the 3 and that van handled really well. Very fun to drive.

I can't post to opp lock, and I wanted advice on the 09 mazda6. I'm buying tomorrow an s sport certified preowned for 11500 (hopefully less) with 49000. Has some repaintend panels, but looked good otherwise on the prebuy inspection. REALLY fun to drive and has the room for a small family. Anyone have one and like it?

If I had to drive a minivan, I'd rock a Toyota Sienna SE.

If you do that, you are stuck with a four seater, not a five seater.

I drove a medium/upper spec one for 4 days last summer for roughly 2k miles. I found it drove a bit more like a car than other mini-vans but it was far smaller inside, the interior quality even slightly upgraded was crap next to base model anything else (minivan) and it wasn't the most comfortable.

Used, the price drop on these have been great but if you live anywhere where it snows the Mazda rust issues are there on these. I have two friends that own them and are showing significant rust for cars under 5 years old.

i was planning on Auto for now. I'd rather have manual on a second more fun car in the future. For my only car and daily driver, I want auto

I love it. It is one of the best looking minivans i have ever seen.

They are small from what I remember

Thats kinda why im interested in it, i dont want a big minivan. All the seats go down though, like the CX9, so probably.

Oh right. I forgot about that, my family never buys minivans so Im used to SUVs which dont have the gaps inbetween the middle row.

Can you remove the middle row? Or is the 3rd row tiny.

My grandparents both own Mazdas (Mazda 3 and CX9) and they have been fine. My aunt is buying a CX5. I'm used to Mazdas because my family is obsessed with them, they are growing on me. With proper care they can't be that bad with rust, right?

Mazda 5 is probably the only Minivan I'd buy. Not because of manual, but because of it being smaller.

Stay away from the 2.3, known to loose compression for np good reason, specially in the manual trans, doing a 2.5 swap for that reason on my Mazda 3, look up the issue, i am not alone on this.
